In October 2015, Greg and Lindsay Winslow opened the doors of Winslow Winery in Perryopolis. A small, family-owned and operated winery, the indoor tasting room is open year-round and features a range of wines for all palates—from dry red wines to sweet and fruit wines. They also produce a bottle-fermented, traditional Sparkling brut wine and non-fortified White Port.
The adventure began, however, in the Spring of 2012, when Greg established the vineyard by planting the first 400 vines. One year later, another 100 were added. The couple currently grow 16 varietals, a mix of hybrid and vinifera grapes. “It was important to me to be able to produce a product that comes from our own vineyard,” explains Greg. “Farming is labor intensive, but the pride in releasing a product grown from your own grapes is very rewarding.” In addition to the 23 other wines they offer, the couple currently have released three estate wines—Vidal Blanc, Traminette, and Gruner Veltliner.
Located on the top of the hill of Pine Lane, the tasting room faces their 1-acre vineyard. They offer an indoor seating area, and when the weather cooperates, an outdoor patio area offers customers a chance to relax and unwind. Typically, the winery provides musical entertainment monthly in addition to Paint and Sips and other activities. Most of the time, when you stop in, you can speak with one of the owners. “We want to be visible to our customers and get to know them as well,” explains Lindsay. “We want to educate them on our wines. The process of wine-making is very interesting—our customers enjoy seeing our production area and learning about the whole method.”
